1. Entering the tunnel, how do you feel about the experience of the Vietnamese people while going through the obstacles faced in the tunnel?

It was dark and scary. it wasn’t easy to live underground.

the vietnamese were really persistant and hardworking. perseverance. courage. resilence.

Cu Chi tunnel Reflection

1. Entering the tunnel, how do you feel about the experience of the Vietnamese people while going through the obstacles faced in the tunnel? What can you say about this vietnamese people who have lived in the tunnel

I felt quite nervous as it was quite dark and the space is quite small to is ale quite hard to move through the tunnel as walls keep restricting us from moving quickly.The vietnamese people was very calm when they entered the tunnel and they also must be very strong to even build the tunnel

2) Compared to Singapore, what values can we learn from the Vietnamese that could overcome the obstacles?

They are quite resilient and creative to make the tunnel and protect the tunnel from the american.The way they set up their traps and cover the tunnel is very smart.They are resourceful try to salvage as much parts as possible like using tyres to make the shoes rubber and using the mine and bombs to their own use.

3) What are two values which we can learn from the Vietnamese that could be applied to our own lives? 

Innovative as it would really help me think creatively when I do my work.Resourcefulness as it would be important in Singapore as we need to reduce,reuse and recycle.Using the most out of everything is important so we do not waste stuff too.

The traps they made were scary but at the same cool and smart at the same time

Day 4 reflection

1) Entering the tunnel, how do you feel about the experience of the Vietnamese people while going through the obstacles faced in the tunnel?

I felt that the Vietnamese soldiers had gone through lots of suffering during the Vietnamese war, as while we were going through the tunnel, we felt hot, stuffy and extremely enclosed. We felt muscle soreness when we crawled through the tunnel for less then a minute, and thinking how the soldiers lived for years in a smaller and shorter tunnel, I feel very fortunate.

2) What can you say about the Vietnamese people who have lived in the tunnel? (i.e. what are some key qualities that they embodied which helped them to overcome the odds?)

The Vietnamese people are brave, persistent and have strong persistence against the Americans. They are also very resourceful, making use of bamboo sticks for booby traps and living underground to hide from the Americans.

3) What are two values which we can learn from the Vietnamese that could be applied to our own lives?

We can learn to be more persistent against our challenges and face them in a smart way. We can also learn to be resourceful, making use of simple concepts to overcome our problems.

We can learn that we should empathise for those before and be grateful for what we have.

The Vietnamese people are very innovative, where they will use anything they find to pick themselves up and they are also determined as they will not give up when they know that they may lose the war.

It was scary and dark when going through the tunnel.

Day 4

1. Entering the tunnel, how did you feel while going through the obstacles faced in the tunnel, what can you say to the Vietnamese people who lived in the tunnel?

I felt very tired, my legs were going numb, it was extremely tiring and I felt worried when it started getting tired, but then I realised that this was just a daily task that the Vietnamese soldiers faced so I felt more relaxed. The Vietnamese should've been very physically strong and tolerant as they did this every day during a war.

2. Compared to Singapore, what values can we learn from the Vietnamese that could overcome the obstacles?

We can learn from their determination and the courage to do it. With determination, we are able to overcome the obstacles as we constantly try to find a way to solve a problem or go past an obstacle, and we must have the courage to do so. The Vietnamese were determined to protect their country and were brave enough to risk their lives to fight the Americans.

We can learn how adaptive they were to the things that happen. The Vietnamese was able to survive underground and lived in a rather harsh environment. They adapted to it and managed to survive in it. Singapore should be like that, able to survive whenever something strikes us.

3. How do you believe that the Chu Chi Tunnel itself could've benefited yourself for your learning. State 2 habits/values that you have brought back to Singapore with you.

The Chu Chi Tunnel taught me that determination and courage would be able to get me somewhere. The Vietnamese were brave and persistent, which let them win the war against a big and powerful country like America. Death was so close to them but yet they were not afraid. They chose to fight for and protect their country. If I were to do that, I will be able to achieve my goal too. I have to be determined to go after my dreams and be brave to do so.

I chose this as it showed the life of the soldiers and the tough life they've been through.

I think that the tunnel was very cramp,hot and small. It was very tiring as i had to move while squatting.The Vietnamese had persistence and tolerant,as they had to stay inside the tunnel while in war.

we could be more persistence as the Vietnamese put up a fight to prevent the americans from conquering Vietnam .we can be more diligent,as the vietnamese use scrap materials from bombs to make other traps.

I felt tired crawling in the tunnel.The tunnel was dark and cram and is hard to move in the tunnel.They were hardworking to move through the tunnel

They were determine, persevered, courageous, resourceful and adaptable.They did not surrender and stay to fight the american and protect their land.

1) Entering the tunnel, how do you feel about the experience of the Vietnamese people while going through the obstacles faced in the tunnel?

I feel that they felt very tired to crawl in the tunnel and it is difficult for them to crawl as I believe that they were tall so they need to lie down to crawl in the tunnel.

2) What can you say about the Vietnamese people who have lived in the tunnel? (i.e. what are some key qualities that they embodied which helped them to overcome the odds?)

They are perseverant, full of courage, very resourceful and Smart  

3) What are two values which we can learn from the Vietnamese that could be applied to our own lives? 

To be resourceful and smart. It is so that I can be smart to use the resource around me and be resourceful.

This shows that the people in the war only have this little food to eat during the war.

Day 4 reflection

The tunnel is really dark and after a long time it could probably get claustrophobic. If you are going through it quickly you'll need to be careful or you'll hit your head or scrape your shoulder. It can also be very tiring running while crouched.

They are persistent and very fit to run through the tunnel and they are very determined for them to spend so much time underground. They are also very innovative in their trap building and using the parts of U.S bombs into smaller bombs for them to use.

Determination can help us when we face hard to overcome obstacles, just like the Vietnamese living in tunnels to fight the U.S soldiers. Innovation can help us solve problems with new solutions, just like how the Vietnamese used U.S bombs to make other bombs.

HCMC 2013 Day 4 Reflections

Entering the tunnel, what do you feel the obstacles that the Vietnamese soldiers faced?

I think that the tunnel was very small as it was very hard to fit as I had to squat and squeeze in. Hence, the Vietnamese Soldiers could be very small size since they were moving at ease.

It was very dark, stuffy and cramp as I was immediately sweating when walking through the tunnel and we had to call one another so that everyone sticks in a group.

Compared to Singapore, what values can we learn from the Vietnamese that could overcome the obstacles?

I think Singapore can learn Resilience, perseverance and persistence. This is because the Vietnamese never gave up even though the causalities were very high and they also had high morale which gave them ideas on how to defeat the Americans.

What are 2 qualities that we could learn form the Vietnamese soldiers?

resilience and perseverance.

It is not comfortable and this tunnel is already expanded for the tourist.Imagine last time, it being 0.9m in height.They must have loved their country a lot.

b) What can you say about this vietnamese people who have lived in the tunnel

We must have courage and persistent to do what we want,as there will definitely be obstacles to go through to get what you want.Although,in the end ,you may not get what you want but it is good to know that you did the best you could.

We must have resistance,do not just give up if there is an obstacle.\

1) Entering the tunnel, how do you feel about the experience of the Vietnamese people while going through the obstacles faced in the tunnel? The Vietnamese people were persistent and did not give up when faced with the danger of the tunnel collapsing and the fear of suffocating meant that they were steadfast.

b) What can you say about this vietnamese people who have lived in the tunnel

The Vietnamese were resilient and courageous when they wear fighting the American forces. They were resourceful and innovative and salvaged whatever they could from the weapons they could find.

2) Compared to Singapore, what values can we learn from the Vietnamese that could overcome the obstacles? The Vietnamese persevered when faced with difficulties and we should also learn to be resourceful and utilize what we have instead of complaining.

We should be resilient and resourceful when faced with challenges and not give up when we cannot succeed and rather we should find another path to the end

Cu Chi Tunnel

1) Entering the tunnel, how do you feel about the experience of the Vietnamese people while going through the obstacles faced in the tunnel?

They were very brave to go into such a dark place with low amounts of air with the risk of dying. They persevered throughout the war with such bad living conditions for a long period of time too.

b) What can you say about this vietnamese people who have lived in the tunnel?

They were smart to be able to plan out the underground where they will live. They also smartly created secret air holes that the Americans failed to find it after a few searches. They purposely created the tunnel such that only their people can go in, however the Americans with bigger bodies cannot do so.

2) Compared to Singapore, what values can we learn from the Vietnamese that could overcome the obstacles?

The children/current generation have to be braver and more persevering in the things we do. Our population is known as the "Strawberry Generation" which means we are very squishy and cannot take any pressure and setbacks.

HCMC 2013 Day 4 Reflections: Cu Chi Tunnel

Q1) Entering the tunnel, how do you feel about the experience of a Vietnamese people while going through the obstacles face in the tunnels?What can you say about this Vietnamese people who have lived in the tunnels?

I felt that I was vertically challenged as I am very tall and it is difficult to navigate inside this dark tunnel. I cant imagine how hardworking the Vietnamese soldiers than live as the tunnels I went through were wider by 1.3 meter more than last time, they must be very hard to live in this type of condition.

Q2) Compared to Singapore, what values can we learn from the Vietnamese that could overcome the obstacles?

I learnt that the Vietnamese soldiers than are persistent, hardworking and smart as they used their wits and cunningness to their advantage so as to make the american’s lose the war even though they have lesser equipment and they did not surrender to the army and continued to fight until they eventually won the war.

3) What are two values which we can learn from the Vietnamese that could be applied to our own lives? 

We can learnt that we should never give up and we should fight to very end even though we lose at least we tried as it is still better than losing without a fight. It is okay to lose if you tried your best. And respect your enemies as for sportsmanship.

It was very small even after the expansion, so I feel that tit must have been even more difficult to move around.

I felt claustrophobic because the tunnel was so small so I walked while squatting down so the tunnel looks a bit larger and thus, I did not feel claustrophobic.
